Traditional allopathic medicine does advocate a healthy diet, but these
recommendations center around such topics as a low fat diet, or low
triglyceride diet or low salt diet, or the special diabetic diet.
Increasingly however, it is apparent that more stringent
recommendations may be of more benefit. The typical western diet is
loaded with refined sugars, saturated fats, processed foods, and now
heart disease, diabetes, and cancer in general have reached epidemic
proportions.
The balance of nonprocessed, natural foods advocated for
generations by ayurvedic practitioners, traditional chinese medicine
providers and many others is now being realized to have multiple
health benefits. Likewise, the idea of protective chemicals from
vegetables, but encapsulated in a pill, is being revisited, as are
some of the standard dietary recommendations.
