Alternative.com Supports Harvard Alternative Medicine Conference Through Educational Grant

BOSTON, MA - March 17, 2000 - AlternativeDr.com sponsored Harvard University's three-day symposium, "Alternative Medicine: Implications for Clinical Practice and State-of-the-Science Symposium" March 12-15, 2000 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

AlternativeDr.com provided an educational grant to support the continuing education program presented by Harvard Medical School's Department of Continuing Education in conjunction with the Center for Alternative Medicine Research and Education and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

"The total visits to CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) providers, 629 million, exceeded total visits to all primary care physicians, 386 million, in 1997," said course director, David M. Eisenberg, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, quoting his 1998 Journal of the American Medical Association article. "There is now little doubt that complementary and alternative medical therapies represent an 'invisible mainstream' within our health care delivery system."

Dr. Stephen Straus, Director of the NIH National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, provided a keynote address. Other faculty speakers for the three-day course included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona and author of eight books, and many other top experts in the fields of alternative medicine including chiropractic, massage therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and herbs.

AlternativeDr.com is located in New York, New York, with offices in Mobile, Alabama, and Seattle, Washington. The company strives to provide quality services and resources to alternative medicine practitioners, suppliers, and consumers. AlternativeDr.com Launches Website

MOBILE, AL - January 7, 2000 - AlternativeDr.com announced the launch of its Website today, endeavoring to create the Internet's leading site for both practitioners and consumers of alternative medicine.

By providing free, high-quality, individually customized websites to alternative medicine providers, AlternativeDr.com will become a site where alternative medicine consumers can find the most up-to-date information, the top products and the finest practitioners.

Already, alternative medicine is a $27 billion per year business. According to AternativeDr.com founder, Lloyd A. May, M.D., this website will add order, credibility and validation to this booming health care field by helping customers sort out their treatment options. Practitioners will find the site a useful and efficient way to bring in new patients and to provide the latest and most effective alternative medicines.

"Alternative medicine's growth is astounding," Dr. May said. "Four out of ten Americans used alternative medicine therapies in 1997 and total visits to alternative medicine practitioners have increased by 50 percent since 1990, exceeding the visits to all U.S. primary care physicians. Americans paid $21.2 billion to alternative medicine practitioners for services in 1997. Clearly, there is a need for an authoritative alternative medicine website. I believe AlternativeDr.com will serve that need."

The Internet has become one of the nation's primary sources for medical information. Reuters Health reported in 1999 that 1 in 4 Americans are using the Internet to find medical information. Earlier this year, USA Today reported that 40 percent of Internet searches are for medical information.

"Alternative medicine and the Internet are a perfect match," Dr. May said. "It is the ultimate way to bring providers, consumers, and suppliers together in one health care arena."
