Obama asks online supporters to lobby for health care

Source  ProgressIllinois.com  Adam Doster, Dec 11 2008 5:16pm

Obama announced at a press conference in Chicago December 11th the former Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD) will run the Department of Health and Human Resources.  This is a sign, say observers, that Obama is serious about health care reform.  Obama is drawing on the high tech tools that helped him get elected to change health care (see the Washington Post article).  You can access the president elect through http://www.change.gov  to directly input your suggestions about health care reform.  To view your state’s health care status, go to http://statehealth.newamerica.net  provided by the New America Foundation.

Melanie Grimes, RS Homeopathic NA CCH provides useful homoepathic treatment guidelines for the common cold and flu in Health News, Friday, December 5th, 2008.  “Homeopathy is a system of medicine pioneered by Samuel Hahnemann over a hundred years ago.”  Homeopathic remedies for the cold and flu include: Oscillococcinum, every twelve hours to stave off colds; Influenzinum, once a day for a month during flu season; Aconite, after cold weather exposure; Ferrum Phosphoricum , at the start of a cold; Gelsimium, for early cold symptoms and bronchitis; and Vincetoxicum for colds.

Recent surveys by the NIH   http://nccam.nih.gov/news/camstats/htm  show interesting data.  Over 38% of American regularly use CAM in addition to regular medical care, and over 12% of children use CAM as well.  The most common treatments include Herbal Medicines, Deep Breathing Exercises, Meditation, Chiropractic, Massage, and Yoga.  Conditions treated mostly include chronic conditions, especially pain.  The most common treatments include fish oil, omega 3, glucosamine, Echinacea, flaxseed, ginseng.  Demographically, its use is highest in women, those with higher education, Western USA, and those patients who have recently quit smoking.  This data show the importance of quality information about the most commonly used therapies, as well as the need for closer integration of typical Western health care with CAM, or alternative medicine.
